Adding a Background Color in Microsoft Word 2007

Before adding a background color to your digital scrapbook page, consider two things.  First, it will use more ink.   Second, if you decide you still want a color, make sure the background color compliments the photographs you will be placing on the page.
The color will not cover the entire page when printing on your inkjet printer.  There will be a white border around the page.
To add a background color, click the “Page Layout” tab.  Click the “Page Color” (looks like a bucket of paint) in the menu bar. A window will pop up.  You have many choices, so experiment.
See what happens when you click “More Choices” or “Fill Effects” when the window opens under “Page Color”.   Under “Fill Effects” you can choose “Gradient”, “Texture”,  “Pattern” or “Picture”.  With these various choices you can create your own unique background.
Ok, you found the background you want, but wait! Unless you have made the proper setting changes, your printer will not print the background!  Click on the round menu tab Office Buttonin the far upper left hand corner of the screen. (This is called the Office Button).  A window menu will open up. Move your cursor over “print”, and a new menu will open to the right of it. Click on “Print Preview” in that menu.
You will go to “Print Preview”, and from there you will see a new menu bar, click on “Options”.  Another window will open.  Under “Print Options”, place a check by “Print background colors and images”, then click “okay”.  You should now be able to see the background when you view your page through “Print Preview”.  To return to your page, click “Close print preview."
